The Dark Side of Golf
Mark Turner, Premier Properties' land director, could have used a light sabre as part of his golf kit when he played
through the night in a 24 hour golf marathon to raise money for local charity, Children With Special Needs Foundation.
The event was organised by Waterfords estate agents.
Mark, who raised £2,187 out of a total of £9,450 before the day, was part of a 9-man assault on the Oak Park golf course
at Crondall, Hampshire. Starting at noon on Thursday, 7th June, they played 99 holes, losing countless balls in the
process, especially in the dark hours of the night. The players were kept fuelled throughout the challenge by the
clubhouse, which stayed open to serve them much needed food and drink.
“Playing in the dark was tricky to say the least,” admits Mark. “Around 2.00 am, after you’ve been playing in the dark
for 4 hours and daylight is still 3 hours away, you know you’ve taken on a challenge! As day dawned, spirits lifted,
until that is we realised we still had around 7 hours to go!”
Friday morning soon warmed them up though and as the nine intrepid players strolled up the last fairway just before noon,
they could see a welcoming party, complete with champagne, waiting eagerly to congratulate them.
“Once we had finished, we were on a high, feeling exhilarated and a sense of achievement at raising the money for such a
good cause,” added Mark.
